The Virtual Identity Server seamlessly integrates within a Microsoft environment, enhancing the features and functionality.
In fact, VIS was built entirely with Microsoft technology, for Microsoft technology. Highlighted below are just some of the ways VIS enhances the value of your Microsoft environment.
Enterpise Group Management
Utilizing the Virtual Group Manager, organizations can now create and manage groups spanning forests/domains without any trusts.
These groups can also be virtual groups where group membership is calculated dynamically at run-time. For example, all users living in Tampa could be in a Tampa Group. Applications can consume these groups exactly as they do regualar Active Directory groups.
Simplified and Enhanced ILM Deployment
Utilizing VIS can enhance and simplify your ILM deployment. ILM's biggest value-add is provisioning and deprovisioning users to disparate systems such as a Mainframe and UNIX system, not in replicating users to and from multiple Active Directory deployments. Using VIS and ILM together can simplify your identity management deployment, allowing you to determine what data is replicated and what data is joined in real-time.
VIS can provide centralized applicaiton services such as schema and group management and centralized security and auditing.
Enterpise Schema Management for third party applications
Third party applications require schema changes to Active Directory. This can lead to project delays and even cancellations. Using the Virtual Schema Manager in VIS, applications can be deployed again the Virtual Identity Server while still leveraging all of the users in the existing Active Directory forests/domains. The custom data is managed by VIS, and the users are managed in their original source, reducing the amount replicated objects in an environment.
Enterprise Password Management
Utilizing a password manager (such as the Optimal IdM Password Manager™) allows for password changes and lost password management (forgot password) functionality across multiple forests/domains without any schema changes.
